Hilton Head Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the opening of our new Women's Center. The Center consists of 4 Labor/Delivery/Recovery rooms, 8 Postpartum rooms, an operating suite, and term nursery with capacity for eight infant bassinets.

Common Services/Procedures provided on the OB Unit include, but are not limited to:

• Normal spontaneous vaginal deliveries

• Cesarean sections – primary/repeat

• Continuos uterine and fetal monitoring

• Medication therapy (terbutaline, magnesium sulfate, etc.) for pre-term labor

• Amniocentesis

• Amnioinfusion

• Anesthesia (epidurals, spinals, general, pudential)

• Hydration and sedation

• Breech version

• Breast feeding education

• Dietary/nutritional counseling

• Non-stress tests

• Augmentation and induction of labor

• Newborn assessment/care

• Blood patch

• Vaginal birth after cesarean section

Clinical competencies of registered Nurses on staff include:

• AWHONN (Association of Women's Health – Obstetrical and Neonatal Nurses) in fetal heart monitoring

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program Provider (this is in conjunction with the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association.)

• Therese Murray, RN is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

People access service through referrals from physicians' offices, radio advertising for classes and sibling tours and word-of–mouth from other patients.

Pre-registration for the hospital admission is available.

Prepared childbirth classes are recommended by local obstetricians. Information can be obtained by calling (843) 689-8285.

Sibling Visitation Tours are available once a month – call (843) 689-8285.

Breast Feeding Support  -- call (843) 689-8269.

Serial Non-Stress Tests especially for twin pregnancy. Patient will be pre-registered and registered weekly with a different admission number. Patient must provide a written order from physician's office.
