June 2012 - Maggie Fagan, occupational therapist at Hilton Head Hospital has renewed the distinguished Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) designation after completing all requirements. Fagan has been credentialed since 2002 after meeting strict eligibility requirements and passing the rigorous Hand Therapy Certification Examination. People value the use of their hands and any loss of function through injury or accident may have a devastating effect on their lives. Anyone with an injury wants the very best of treatment to assure maximal recovery. A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) offers the public assurance that the therapist treating them has achieved the highest recognition of competency in the profession.
Certified Hand Therapists (CHT’s) work with diagnoses related to the arm and hand which may include, but are not limited to:
- congenital anomalies
- fractures and lacerations
- nerve injuries and compressions
- overuse syndromes/repetitive strain injuries
- tendon injuries and strains
The Hand Therapy Certification Commission, Inc., (HTCC), the only organization granting hand therapy certification in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, The Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, India and South Africa, is proud to announce that Maggie Fagan has renewed her credential as a Certified Hand Therapist. Certification is granted for five years. In order to renew and maintain this certification at the end of the five-year period, CHTs must demonstrate current knowledge in the profession through work experience and professional development activities, or by taking the examination again. There are approximately 5,400 individuals worldwide that hold this marked designation.
