Accessibility Statement

We are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience. To do so, we are actively working with consultants to update the website by increasing its accessibility and usability by persons who use assistive technologies such as automated tools, keyboard-only navigation, and screen readers.

We are working to have the website conform to the relevant standards of the Section 508 Web Accessibility Standards developed by the United States Access Board, as well as the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1. These standards and guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities. We believe that conformance with these standards and guidelines will help make the website more user friendly for all people.

Our efforts are ongoing. While we strive to have the website adhere to these guidelines and standards, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website. If, at any time, you have specific questions or concerns about the accessibility of any particular webpage, please contact so that we may be of assistance.

The Cove

Behavioral Health for Seniors

Hilton Head Hospital has been providing care to the Lowcountry for over 40 years. The Cove is an extension of our services tailored specifically to the needs of seniors  and their loved ones. Our goal is to provide a safe, respectful environment for seniors to seek the care needed for behavioral health issues until they are ready to return home.

Our Services

Growing older does not always come easy. There can be both physical and mental losses, but that does not mean one needs to give up on happiness and contentment. At our Senior Behavioral Health Unit, we offer individualized short-term care in a warm, secure and supportive atmosphere for older adults experiencing psychiatric symptoms which require 24-hour acute inpatient treatment. This program was designed for seniors who are experiencing emotional, behavioral or mental health issues, such as:

  • Self-injurious (suicidal) thoughts or behaviors
  • Severe agitation or anxiety
  • Destructive or combative behavior
  • Behavioral changes with potential for harm to self or others
  • Delusions, hallucinations or paranoia
  • Social withdrawal, loss of interest in personal appearance/hygiene
  • Dementia with behavioral disturbances such as agitation, anger and aggression that are amenable for short term treatment

Our Treatment Plan

  • Psychiatric and physical assessment
  • Daily visits by psychiatrist
  • Group activities, such as music and art therapy
  • 24-hour nursing and medical support
  • Individual and group therapy
  • Family education and support
  • Medication stabilization and management
  • Comprehensive discharge planning
