Hilton Head Regional Healthcare to Host Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive from June 5-12 Because Hunger Doesn’t Take a Summer Vacation
Jun 5, 2023“At Hilton Head Regional Healthcare, we understand the health issues children face from hunger and poor nutrition,” said Joel Taylor, chief executive officer of Hilton Head Regional Healthcare. Many households rely on food banks and other food programs to have access to the healthy meals they need to thrive. We recognize the importance of beginning each day with a nutritious breakfast and, through this drive, hope to help many in our community struggling with food insecurity. We thank you in advance for your compassion, generosity, and support.”
According to Bluffton Self Help, 60% of households in Beaufort County and 75% in Jasper County are not earning a livable wage – their expenses outweigh their income. In Bluffton schools alone, there are more than 9,400 students, so we can easily assume that more than 5,600 of those children may be food insecure. Research proves that when children have access to the nutritious food they need, they are able to learn and thrive.
“We love when our community partners, like Hilton Head Regional Healthcare, step up,” said Courtney Hampson, chief executive officer of Bluffton Self Help. “The Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive will make a huge difference in helping to fill our Market shelves. As typically happens this time of year, the need grows in the summer as children are home from school and families are scrambling to cover the cost of lunches and snacks, an expense they don’t have during the school year.”
Donations of healthy cereal to the Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive will be collected from June 5 through June 12 at Hilton Head Hospital, Coastal Carolina Hospital, Tidewatch Freestanding Emergency Department and the Bluffton Medical Campus.
