Hilton Head Hospital Celebrates Little Free Library
Aug 21, 2018Hilton Head Island, S.C. – August 21, 2018 – Hilton Head Hospital recognizes Carley Wilson for her initiative in bringing a Little Free Library to our campus on Hilton Head Island.
“I first learned about Little Free Library when walking around Old Town Bluffton where there is one on the side of the road,” explained Wilson. “I thought it was super cute and a great way to spread access to books and influence others to learn through reading … one of my favorite things to do.”
Wilson had been volunteering in the Same-Day Surgery Unit where she noticed many patient would sit alone for their appointments and could use something interesting to read. After doing some research, Wilson worked with Hilton Head Hospital’s Volunteer Manager Terrilyn Green to get approval for the Little Free Library.
“When Carley approached me with this idea, I was delighted,” shared Green. “It really met a need for those who sit for many hours receiving infusions or for family members of patients having outpatient procedures. To top it all off, I was so delighted that this amazing young lady had thought of it and was asking to put it all together. She has been an exceptional volunteer, and this was taking her service to another level. I could not have been more proud of her.”
“I would not have been able to do this without the help and support of Ms. Green and the hospital staff,” said Wilson. “I hope that our Little Free Library is helpful to the patients of Hilton Head Hospital to make them feel more comfortable.”
Carley is a recent graduate of Hilton Head Island High School where she served as captain of the varsity lacrosse for two years.
