Hilton Head Regional Medical Center announced today that Jane Upshaw, chancellor of the University of South Carolina Beaufort, has been appointed to the Board of Hilton Head Health System, L.P., the governing board of Hilton Head Regional Medical Center.
“We are extremely pleased to welcome Jane to the board,” said Bill Miles, Hilton Head Regional Medical Center’s chairman. “A recognized leader in education and development, Jane brings substantial experience in program development and higher learning to the medical center’s board.”
In October 2002, Jane was promoted to chancellor at USC Beaufort after three years as the university’s dean. Under Jane’s leadership USC Beaufort has become a four year degree institution. The university offers six baccalaureate degrees, with six additional degrees currently waiting state approval. She is the first woman to head a baccalaureate degree institution in South Carolina.
She is currently on the board of directors for the Greater Hilton Head Island Chamber of Commerce, Greater Island Committee, Jasper County School District Advisory Board and beginning in November will serve on the Auburn University Alumni Association Board. Upshaw holds a B.S. and M.S. degree from Auburn University and a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.
Hilton Head Regional Medical Center, part of Tenet South Carolina, is a 93-bed acute care hospital located at 25 Hospital Center Boulevard in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
