To raise awareness among local women that heart disease is their #1 health threat, the American Heart Association and Hilton Head Regional Healthcare will host the 2009 Low Country Women’s Heart Health Conference.

Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The conference is being presented as part of Go Red for Women, the AHA national movement to increase awareness of heart disease and educate women about their risk of heart disease and stroke. Hilton Head Regional Healthcare is the local leader of the Go Red for Women movement.

At the event, women will learn about their risks for heart disease and how they can make lifestyle changes. There will break-out sessions on health topics such as diabetes, blood pressure and healthy eating; free screenings for cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure; a heart healthy lunch and vendor fair.

There will be educational sessions on managing stress for the working woman, how to read food labels, understanding vitamins and supplements, linking biology, spirituality, and heart health, inspiring strategies for nourishing your body and soul, psychology of women’s wellness, living with diabetes, aortic aneurysm the silent killer and a “Heart to Heart” Q&A with a panel of local Physicians. 

There will be cooking and exercise demonstrations, a heart healthy boxed lunch and fashion show, and a vendor fair. Attendees are invited to wear red to the conference.

Pre-conference heart health screenings


Sponsored by Long Cove Club Community Endowment Fund, Pre-conference heart health screenings are strongly encouraged and will be held at various locations in March and April. In just about 15 minutes we'll check your blood pressure, glucose, B-M-I, and cholesterol screenings and give you a written assessment.  For accurate results, fasting for 10 to 12 hours is recommended. 

 *Screenings are free only for women who register and attend the conference.
