Diabetes Education Program Merits ADA Recognition

The American Diabetes Association recently recognized Hilton Head Medical Center and Clinics for meeting the national standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education. Managed by the hospital's cardiac/pulmonary department, the educational program covers a range of topics for patients such as diabetes overview, nutrition, exercise, medication, blood glucose levels, prevention; foot, skin and dental care; to the patient's it serves. Self-management education is an essential component of diabetes treatment. Programs that achieve "Recognition" status have a staff of knowledgeable health professionals who can provide up-to-date information about diabetes management for participants.
