Komen On the Go™ Tour Brings Life-Saving Breast Health Information to Bluffton Community

Komen On the Go™ is a community education and outreach tour that is part of Susan G. Komen for the Cure's efforts to engage all generations in the fight against breast cancer.

On Wednesday, June 13, 2007, the Hilton Head Regional Medical Center will host Komen On the Go™ at The Tanger Outlet Center #2. This stop along the 36-week, 144-stop nation-wide tour aims to drive all generations of Lowcountry residents toward a better awareness of breast health and breast cancer and a deeper commitment to practice healthy habits that can reduce their risk for the disease.

The Komen On the Go™ pink trailer converts into an interactive learning center. This fun, hands on experience features computer kiosks, breast cancer educational materials, breast self-examination (BSE) guides, information on how to volunteer locally, registration cards for the Komen Charleston Race for the Cure, tips on supporting loved ones facing breast cancer and an eight-foot “graffiti wall” to share a memory or pledge their personal support in the global breast cancer movement.

June Kasiak-Gambla, RN and certified breast health navigator from Hilton Head Regional Medical Center will have an exhibit featuring information about “Hope and Healing” a new breast cancer support group and registration cards for Hilton Head Regional’s October breast cancer luncheon. She will also speak to participants about her role in coordinating the clinical, educational and support needs of breast cancer patients and their families.

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, we have invested nearly $1 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
